Gravity Railroad Trestle



This trestle was built in the 1800s to help supply coal, wood and ice to Manhattan. It was part of a gravity railroad system that led to the Delaware and Hudson Canal which started in Honesdale PA and ended in Kingston NY at the Hudson River. You can read more of the history of the gravity railroad and canal here. It’s an interesting read and gives some insight into how supplies and materials were moved to NYC in the 1800s.
